The Continued Challenge

The Continued Challenge of COVID-19: PATIENT EMAIL JUNE 20, 2020

As we trek through our 4th month of COVID 2020, I hope you and your family are staying well and practicing proven measures to limit your risk of contracting the virus. I know many want to get out and be "normal" again, but vigilance and caution should be the norm this week as we have seen an uptick of new cases in Collin and Denton counties . Thankfully, prevalence of positive cases in the two counties is still quite low compared to the larger population, and the fatality rate is not climbing. Our hospitals, ICU beds and doctors in the Frisco area have capacity to care for an influx of patients if needed.

As more North Texans have gathered together this past month, I anticipated an uptick in cases mid-June. Frisco reported 40 new cases last week , which is our most active week yet. Many are young, healthy people likely to recover quickly. But, the virus will spread as we return to restaurants, gyms, shops, offices, sports and gatherings. Please be especially careful if you are over the age of 65, diabetic, obese or suffer other chronic conditions associated with higher risk. Safeguards are worth repeating:

  1. Wash your hands frequently and do not touch your face.

  2. Practice physical distancing as best you can.

  3. Isolate if you are sick and demand anyone around you do the same.

  4. Avoid large gatherings, unnecessary travel, and public touchpoints

  5. Wear a mask when out in public and especially in confined spaces

  6. Stay as healthy as possible and build your own immune system

I look forward to continuing to care for each of you through this uncertain COVID chapter of life. Never hesitate to call the office -- come in or request televisit -- to keep you healthy. Now more than ever, optimizing your best health is so important. As always, call me if you need me.

In Good Health,

Dr. Lowery
